Four Decades and Millions of Connections Designed Later

Descon is the oldest, most well-known graphical connection engineering software in the industry, helping structural engineers design and calculate steel connections since the 1984. Back then, Descon required a DOS prompt to access it (aka pre-Windows).

Since day one, Descon has been developed and supported by structural engineers to make designing and calculating steel connections to AISC standards more efficient, accurate, and easier to communicate via calculation reports.

Our team continues to push the connection engineering software industry forward from pioneering software-based engineering to developing more complex connection types and creating 2D and 3D models of your connections to building an easy way to manage hundreds of connections across on a construction project.

1984

Omnitech Associates released first version of Descon, offering the engineering industry’s first connection-focused software as most of the industry designed and calculated connections by hand.

1997

Transitioned Descon from a DOS platform to Windows. Released DesconBrace.

2012

Descon acquired by RexConn Design (now Descon is part of REX Technology Solutions). Combined the separate functionalities of Descon’s multiple applications (calculations, bracing, and graphical interface) into a single application known as DesconPlus [version 7].

2018

Modernized application and functionality with DesconPlus 8. Added more complex connection types.

2023

Transition to release model with continuous updates, dropping the version number from the product. Also introduced Project Manager functionality and additional seismic engineering calculations.

Director of Engineering | BMK ENGINEERING, INC.

Descon has greatly aided in the design of our connections. The interface is easy to use and the customizability of the connections is supreme. The reporting portion is easy to follow and presentable for a calculation submission. Descon provides great value and should be in every structural engineer’s software library.

We have been using Descon for about 8 years. It is very powerful but our main benefit has been speed. We are a design-build firm so we do estimates with a preliminary structure design. We used to estimate 10% of the total weight for connection material. But with Descon software, we can do preliminary connection design so fast that we get a better estimate. More than once we won the bid because we could estimate 7% of the total weight for connections instead of 10%. That little difference has been a key factor for being more competitive and winning more bids.

I used the DesconPlus for a recent FAA project. The generated written report was very easy to follow (and explain to others) and the generated .dxf was a great tool between engineer and detailers.
